I've been busy as a bee, trying to get some crafts together for my one show that
we do, the first weekend in Oct. i did some , what I call, Altered Art, in the form of old books. Our show is called the Apple Festival, so did some with apples on them.
It has been a hot summer, wonder what Oct. will bring? We've had cold weather, rainy weather, and hot weather over the years.

July 17, 2009

Today would have been my youngest son's 50th birthday. Sad day.
I wanted to share this Oil can that has been in my family for as long as I can remember, which is 80 years. I decided to clean it up and paint it then got the idea to make it into a lamp. I Put Mary Jane Todd's apples design on it and found a shade in my "stash", added her design of the little man, did in Peter Ompir style. Hope it becomes a Family Heirloom.

Aggravated July 7, 2009`

Does this happen to you? When I first set up my Blog, I don't remember having to have a Google account and Google password, so I signed up, now everytime I want to get into my blog it won't accept my Google password and have to have a new one, this if for the pits! I'v had at least four passwords now and am getting tired of this, lol.
Does anyone have any solutions? thanks Doris

Here is my Cat, Chloe, who assumes this favorite pose when she has been scolded! As if to say, "I'm sorry, don't you think I'm cute?". lol
A lot of company for this ole Lady for sure.

June 13, 2009

I haven't posted in a while. I've been trying to do some Prim items for my Craft
show coming in Oct. I had all these metal Daisy hangers, so thought up this for one use.
Vernon and I celebrated out 61 Wedding Anniversary on June 9th. Ate dinner out and visited some Craft shops , couldn't find what I wanted. The Michael's and AC Moore stores are going out of the Decorative painting business and into the "craft Paint" which is worthless. Sad, I did buy a set of Oils, hoping I can work in a canvas, among my other painting. My ART journey started in Oils, back in 1985, just hope I remember how to use them, lol.

Sue Mitchell

I really miss my friend Sue Mitchell. Her Blogs were so interesting and
so like her, a sharing and caring person. Her Texas Bluebonnets will be
even more beautiful now as we think of her. Life is so short, so make each
moment count.

April 30, '09

Today would have been my Mother's birthday. Always think of her.
I've been busy painting more stuff for the Craft show this Fall.
Hope you enjoy seeing my projects.
I think Spring is courting Summer, it seems so warm.
The humming birds are here, and I have two feeders out , one on the back porch and one in the front yard, outside Vernon's window so he can see them, sitting at his desk, reading.

Latest Paintings 0f March 28, 09

I've been a little busy with doctor appointments, etc, but managed to paint up these two Welcome Signs. I thought Rene` Mullins little Bunny was so spring looking will put this one in the Art Gallery at Paintsville, KY to sell. The apples design is one from Mary Jane Todd and I also put this on an Antique Oil can that has been in my family for over 80 years. I'm going to make a lamp out of the can. Going tomorrow to Lowe's to see if I can find the fittings to make the lamp with, I imagine I will have to order those.

Latest paintings, Thinking of Spring

I decided to paint something Spring related, so got out the "stash" of candy dishes and voila, two dishes and a retcangle box I have had forever. I love Gail Anderson designs and do a lot of them. Hope you like them too.

My partner's ATC for March

I painted two ATC's today for my partner. The white rose is called a sillouette rose.
The chickadee is from a picture I have and the Beagle dog is an Edition print I painted with watercolors.
Nice day weather wise here today. My Vet's paper I rec'd from Chloe's surgery said to bring her back for suture removal, well, we did that today only to be told they don't remove sutures now because they will absorb in about a month. Wasted trip, but Chloe is worth it.

Traumatic weekend

Well our neighbor has did it again. Let their dogs lose at night and the same Samoyed that killed my Siamese Cat, Kiara, last year, came into Melinda's yard and killed her cat, Gypsy. Melinda had rescued Gypsy as a small kitten and nursed her back to health, had her spayed, she was totally black with beautiful yellow eyes, long hair. I know what I'd like to do, but don't have the nerve. Takes on a new meaning, "love thy neighbor".

Grisaille from Paint in

This is my rendition of Linda Coulter's Grisaille painting of a Magnolia.
Picture is grainy, but if it's any bigger, then it's too big.
I enjoyed painting this one.

Paint In

This morning it was raining, but turned out just cloudy the rest of the day and in the 50's. My best friend, Marcia came out to paint with me. She always brings me art supplies and unique things, to paint. She really spoils me! We painted on canvas, the Grisaille technique, one of Linda Coulter's , Magnolias. She also brought a Delft Painting Technique. I'll hopefully get these finished next week, for sure.
Vernon made us Pizza for lunch and Melinda brought over a Fruit Pizza, Yummmm.
How's that for a Paint-In? A wonderful day, indeed! Just wish we lived closer together.

Sorrow

We've had a sorrowful journey this past weekend. Vernon's sister, Mattie who was 94 years old, died, Saturday and was buried this Monday. Traveled to West Virginia for services.
It was bitter cold with some snow on the ground.

I notice the Finch bird feeder needs refilling. There are always a lot of Finches here.
I can hardly wait for Spring this year.

Blustery Day!

It has been one blustery day! Sky darkens, snow fluries, windy, then before you know it, the sun is shinning! Like March weather used to be.
We had a little trip to the Vet today. We have two Siamese cats, one we got from the shelter and she was spayed shortly after getting her. Then we found Chloe, and she is just now getting her surgery. Poor little thing, is just now waking up good, so she can walk straight now, (smile).
I know all you out there who have pets, they are like our "fur babies" and we love them.

Workshop

Our Chapter has a workshop this Saturday with Dottie Kuhl, who is famous for her gourd art. She is a published Artist and a member of our Chapter. She does wonderful things with Quick wood, sculpting images incorporated with her gourds, we will be doing a Spindle Santa.
I have a bentwood box to paint and take to the class. Our Chapter does Memory Boxes for Hospice there in Charleston, WV. My dilelmma is always agonizing over what design to put on the box.

Paradise Lost

This week has been sort of a blur. Started with headache, Abdominal cramps and contined all week, today much better, hopefull it will all be gone before long. I don't make a good patient! Just sort of go to bed and cover up my head an don't bother me, lol. That sound terrible, now that I've written it. lol. Maybe I'll have something to show next week.
Our power went off again yesterday for a few hours but thankfully, before darkness arrived, it came back on. Vernon still working on generator!

Creative Day

Monday wasn't the usual "Blue Monday". I accompolished some things today.
I painted a Memory Box for a friend and did two ATC cards.
Base coated the inside of 3 more boxes for the Memory Box Program. So, I'm really happy. Thought I'd put the MB picture up.

A New Day

Here it is, the first day of another week! Our snow is melted and it was warm today.
I am determined to get up early in the morning and get something accompolished by the end of the day. Wednesday, I work at the Gallery, so will gather up something to keep me occupied there. Maybe take Colored Pencils and work on a design I've already started on suade paper . I also want to do more ATC for trading with other artists.

Party

I went with my daughter, Melinda to a Garden Party this evening. Fun, I really enjoyed it. There were some lovely things to buy in their catalog, but I'm afraid I don't buy much anymore for decorating my house, etc.

It was in the 60's today. Son came and brought his grandchildren , two boys and two girls, our Great Grandchildren. Had a nice lunch for them and then they went home.

I have two projects I have to do, so maybe now that will motivate me to paint more.

Lazy Day!

How many Lazy Days do you allow yourself? Seems like mine are getting far too many.
I can't seem to get motivated to get to painting. We are having company tomorrow, so will have to cook for them. Should be an enjoyable Day.
Waiting for my ATC from my partner. I have a notebook that I keep them in.

Happy Camper!

Today I'm happy 'cause as directed, I called at noon today to
Suddenlink and the Tech lady walked me through the process of setting up my IP address between the Router and the Modem. Christy was very patient with this ole Lady! Hey wasn't it nice of Pete from the Suddenlink.Corp to write the comment he wrote? Suddenlink even gave me a credit for the time I was off line. Great Service!!
It has been cold today, from the teens this AM up into the 20's today.
I'm enclosing a picture of the ATC cards I've painted for my partner. Hope she likes them.

PC problems

I've been having Internet problems for about 4 days now. The other day, the tech from Suddenlink said my PC wasn't recognizing my Router. No other advice was given. So, I'm thinking we need a new Router, right? Well, Vernon being the ole Instrument mechanic, Electrician, he checked it with his Volt meter and it checked out OK. So today, I call Suddenlink back and get another Tech. He has me Ping and do all those things, and told me if was NOT my router, the trouble was on their end, I'm not showing an IP address. First time I ever got them to admit it was their fault, lol. May be Thursday noon before it is fixed. Go figure! I'm still using my daughter's connection from my painting window. I get real cranky when my computer isn't working, (smile).

Dreary Day

I did get some painting finished today! Yeah!! Another small metal plate. I think I bought these at Craft Wholesale, along with bigger metal plates and they were very reasonable , but you have to have a resale number to buy from them.
It has snowed off and on today, not much accumulation, although I haven't looked much outside today. Still don't have my desktop PC. Will have to buy a battery.
Is it time to eat yet? Vernon made beef stew.

I Dislike Winter!

Well today was a lot better, warmer wise.Went to Church, came home and cooked. Sure hope we don't get any of the new "stuff" they are predicting for the first of the week..
My Internet went out. Suddenlink said, my PC wasn't recognizing my router, so couldn't get on. So , I came into my painting room which faces Melinda, and I'm on her wireless! LOL> Shhhhh.
Have to get up early, go to Ashland, for Vernon to get lab work for his appt. on Friday. We've tried going local for the lab work, but then when we get to the Dr. Appt., he hasn't rec'd the lab Fax! Incomputent (sp) people!
Have to find a battery for the PC too, it keeps bringing up that black screen saying, "your battery is getting low".
Hope it isn't icy roads tomorrow.

Sunshine

Today brought out the sun and melted most of the snow on the ground. Vernon working on the genrator, can't get it to run. Would love to have it the next time we get "snow bound".
We finally got the pine tree off the house, still has to be cleaned out of our yard, but at least it is off the house.
Tomorrow starts a new week, and I hope I can be more productive than I've been this week.
Talk later!

Friday, January 30, 2009

Whew!

At last the tree is off the roof of our house! it has snowed off and on all day, just like March weather. I think it is ice now, my daughter came over and said the sidewalk was ice and the cars coming down our little lane are driving really slow!
Next time I'm where I can find one, I'm buying one of those camp stoves, so we can at least cook if our power goes off again, lol.
Wonder what tomorrow will bring? Just think Monday is Groundhog Day!

Thursday, January 29, 2009

Power, Power

We had an ice storm, rain, and snow, and our power went off. We have a heating backup with a Buck Stove and natural gas, so we stayed warm, but no way to cook something hot to eat. One can eat sandwitches so long and you want something hot to eat. After the ice storm, a White Pine tree on our neighbors property, fell on our house. I thought something had exploded like a bomb! I was at the computer next to my bedroom which is where it fell, on my bedroom part of the house. Now to get it removed! There are two more big trees like this one next to this one, I sure hope they fall the other way when they fall! In this picture you can see the ice, but the sun came out today a while enough to melt the ice off the room and tree, so will be easier to remove.

ATC

One of the Painting list's I belong to, is having an Artist Trading Card exchange.
The Coordinator says it can be hand painted directly on the card or we can use a print of a painting we have painted, so I'm doing that. I did some watercolor paintings a few years back and I've made prints from those at Office Max. Then I bought the plastic covers that boys use for their baseball collections to put my ATC's in.
I keep a 3 ring notebook with plastic pages in that I store my ATC's in I've received in exchanges. Get it out often and look at them.
Saturday, and my dining room table is "busy".LOL> I'm not cleaning my mess of cards off, 'cause I'll just get back at it on Monday. Sound familiar? Hope so.
Hope everyone can get out to their Worship places tomorrow and have a great DAY!

TGIF not really! Fridays come around too soon anymore. I've been working on
note cards I already have printed up from my watercolors and I'm going to
exhibit them in our Art Gallery in Paintsville. Hope some of them sell.

Wally World

I ventured outside today for a trip to Wal Mart. We were out of Cat food! Can't have that! The snow is about gone, it got up to 46 degrees I believe. I put on so many layers of clothes on and once you get into the store , you are burning up. It was much colder when I left home! Can't win!
My cat food trip turned into a $131.00 tab! If you're like me, you can think of all kinds of items you "need" once you get in the store. I take so many Vitimans, that's what runs my bill up, and sometimes I think I'm absolutely "crazy". I never saw so many people shopping, had to park far away, stand in line for eons of time. Every checkout had long rows of people with carts full and running over, I finally found one that said, "10 item or less" and went through, if she had said anything to me about having more than 10 items, I was ready with an answer! lo BTW they didn't have any checkers in the second level of checkouts, you know the ones nearest the outside Isle to go out the door? Of course my list also included some craft items, what is left to buy in crafts.

Bird Watching

I finally caught my furbabies watching the birds at the feeder in the back yard. Do you know how hard it is to get a picture of a cat? Very hard! I just got one pic and Chloe came running to see what I had in my hand! Chloe is on the left side and Misty Bleu on the right. We get a lot of enjoyment out of them. Chloe is always in to something and Misty Bleu is a laid back cat, nothing alarms her! lol. She is my "shelter" cat. We still have some snow on the ground. AWWW Winter! It does bring the redbirds out to feed and they are so beautiful!

Memory Boxes

I worked on the four memory boxes today. I still have to varnish them. I always take pictures of them before varnishing to cut down on the glare. If you want to see the latest ones they are in my Picture Trail, Memory Boxes album.
http://www.picturetrail.com/dorisdolin
It has been in the 20's today, cold, had a few snow showers this AM but soon sunny.
I'll put one of the boxes that I decopauged the print from one of my paintings, up on this site.

Monday 19

Well snow has come to Tomahawk! We have about 2 inches of snow, and the red birds
are feeding at the bird feeder. We have chickadees, doves, wrens, bluejays, bluebirds. I so enjoy watching them. My two cats, love to sit at the patio door and watch the birds, I can imagine what would happen if they were out, but alas, they are house cats. Chloe is my sable Siamese and Misty Bleu is the shelter cat, and is supposed to be a Blue Siamese, which she looks like one. Chloe is the youngest but she is the Boss! She love to "jump rope" with her wand toy, but when Misty shows up, she grabs it and drags it to another room. Aren't pets wonderful?
I've been working on 4 Memory Boxes today. Painted one and am decopauging the other three. These four will fit in a priority Mailing Box.

Sunday 18th

I was "under the weather" today, stayed in bed most of the day. At my age I think I can do that! ha. The roads were icy this morning and when DH got back from Church this evening he said it was snowing, maybe we will have Winter here in Tomahawk, yet.
So far just a dusting of snow.
Today starts another week, so hope I can get to painting something this week.

Saturday, 1-17-09

Today has been a very happy day for me! I met up with my best buddy, Marcia and her DH, John, and we went to our Chapter meeting and it was a tea Party! So much food, and great fellowship with everyone. We have several members who travel some distance from the area we meet in. Just goes to show, painters love to get together and talk ART. We had two ladies joining the Chapter also and one of them is a teacher. Sounds like we will have a great year with seminars and workshops. From watercolors, to gourds, we will have a great year!
When I left home at 6 AM it was ZER0 but warmed up to in the 20's.
Our chapter paints Memory Boxes for Hospice, there in Charleston, WV. They use the oval bentwood boxes, so brought one home to paint and take back next meeting time.
Till later!

Jan. 16

TGIF. The days are going by so swiftly, here it is Friday again.
It is cold outside, 14 degrees right now, but colder earlier. Just went over to DD, Melinda's house to give her the tray after putting a saw tooth on the back to hang it.
Think I'll paint Memory Boxes today. Maybe a couple will be the Lace designs of Arlene Linton. They are quick and easy and look elegant, I think.

Thursday, January 15, 2009

Jan.15

Today was Laundry Day. BTW, I'm still using my Sears Kenmore washer and dryer we bought back in 1982! Of course, just the two of us now, but had it when I had 3 children.
We had just a skiff od snow last night, and it's very cold out. Took the tray over to give Melinda and she liked it. She has sunflowers in her kitchen.
Got my beautiful Valentine card today from Liz Macchi. She sure know how to make cards!
Hummm cold day, good for porkcops, turnips, and cornbread. Good ole southern cooking.
till tomorrow.......

Jan. 14rh

What a dreary day , today here in my niche of Kentucky. Maybe I'll get my Valentine swap today and brighten up my day, eh? lol. Thanks to Tolegranny for some one on one instructions for my Blog, appreciate that. I'm still learning.
We've been having Blue birds flittering around their boxes. Makes one think of Spring, but isn't it a bit early? Most definetely will have to clean out their box, maybe that's what they are trying to tell me.
I'm off to eat something, feeling hungry.

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

Tuesday

Well I can't say I accompolished a single thing today. Sad, but true.
I have to get to painting or I'll become "stale". Daughter gave me a
pretty wooden tray for my BD. so think I'll paint a big sunflower on
it and use the original brown background. Will post it when finished, if
it gets off the "painting" board.

Monday, January 12, 2009

Jan.12

I'm still trying to learn this blog thing! Can't seem to get it the way I'd like it to look.
Think I'll go eat my last piece of birthday cake.
Maybe paint something this evening.

I met my Soul mate in High School and we have been married for 60 years.
He is also my wonderful wood cutter and best encourager of my crafting and painting.

I will try and remember to update this Blog with pictures, musings , etc. from time to time.
